Missed Connections

Finding the courage to ask someone out on a date or for their number, even email can be tough, especially if you just met them.

Craigslist.org is a complete one stop shop for real estate, jobs, community events, services, and personals. It’s a community bulletin board where anonymous individuals can call out to someone they want to know better. Under the personals on Craigslist there is a section called ‘Missed Connections.’ You can post a note looking for someone you may have made a connection with, but for some reason didn’t get their info before departing. Or you saw them in line at Starbucks and didn’t have the courage to go say hello. For example, they may post an ad that reads, “I saw you in Starbucks on Main Street ordering a latte wearing red shoes. I thought you were cute - can I buy you your next latte?”
Missed Connections was created in 2000 after Craigslist employees noticed “I saw you” messages popping up in the personals section. The name of the category was chosen as a transportation metaphor. “Our motivation is simply that this is something that happened to all of us,” said Craig Newmark, an Internet pioneer who started Craigslist in San Francisco.
‘Missed Connections,’ on Craigslist is creating relationships all over the country. It’s a feature that all singles are thanking the creators of Craigslist for.
